As part of the “Logistics Platform 2030” initiative, a central connection was created for Migros Aare between a newly constructed cold storage facility and the existing logistics center—separated by a highway. The goal was to establish a continuously refrigerated transport route for order picking.

The structural conditions did not allow for a direct connection. The solution: a route over the roof of the existing building. In particular, the low load-bearing capacity of only 100 kg/m² posed a significant challenge. The basis for the implementation was a steel structure with defined load transfer points, on which the refrigerated tunnel was constructed and insulated.

KRAMER’s scope of work included the delivery and installation of the insulation panels for the approximately 160-meter-long refrigerated tunnel as well as the vertical conveyor. Only three months were available for planning, work preparation, and implementation.

Installation took place under demanding conditions: working at a height of approximately 20 meters, winter weather, and limited logistics on the roof. A total of approximately 4,000 m² of panels, with lengths of up to 5 meters and a weight of about 100 kg per element, were installed. Some of the material had to be moved manually over long distances on the roof.

The result is a continuously refrigerated connecting corridor that enables efficient and safe goods logistics between two building sections—even under complex structural conditions.
