Medical transport: Reliable cooling for temperature-critical goods

Cooling packs form the backbone of passive cold chains. Their reliable conditioning to defined target temperatures is essential for product quality and regulatory compliance.

The AIRFROSTER® conditions cooling packs reproducibly and in a validated manner – for the safe and sustainable transport of pharmaceuticals, blood products, vaccines, and biological samples.

For GDP-regulated applications, the AIRFROSTER® supports the reproducible implementation of temperature-controlled processes as well as documentation requirements in accordance with the Good Distribution Practice guidelines.

The challenge

Different temperature ranges, highest requirements

Depending on the goods being transported, specific temperature requirements apply – from refrigerated products (+2 to +8 °C) to deep-frozen goods (−20 °C or lower).
These requirements pose major challenges for transport companies, clinics, and laboratories:

  1. Different temperature ranges must be managed simultaneously,
  2. the cold chain must be fully documented, and
  3. processes must be validated and reproducible.

The result: Process reliability, energy efficiency, and sustainability are difficult to achieve with conventional solutions.

Challenges of conventional cooling in medical transport

  • Refrigerated packaging

    Uneven temperature distribution

Standard cooling units without dedicated cooling programs create inhomogeneous temperature profiles. The result is varying final temperatures of the cooling packs.

  • Icon hohe Schadenssummen

    Lack of process reliability

Without validated cooling programs, reproducible conditioning to defined target temperatures cannot be ensured.

  • Icon zeitlich begrenzte Kühlung

Trade-off: energy efficiency vs. process reliability

Conventional solutions require significantly undershooting the target temperature to safeguard the process – resulting in increased energy consumption.

  • Icon hohe Kosten

    High operating costs

The use of dry ice leads to considerable procurement and storage costs and involves significant handling risks.

  • Icon nicht nachhaltig

    Environmental impact

Dry ice releases CO₂ during use and has a lasting negative impact on the environment.

The solution

AIRFROSTER®: Two cooling chambers, precise temperature control, validated processes

The AIRFROSTER® features two independently controllable cooling chambers for the parallel conditioning of cooling packs to different target temperatures – validated, reproducible, and with complete temperature documentation up to the point of pack removal.

This ensures perfect passive cooling for the last mile and guarantees that recorded temperature values are accurate and reliable. All without compromising efficiency or sustainability: as an alternative to dry ice, the AIRFROSTER® reduces CO₂ emissions by around 90% – GDP compliance and environmental responsibility are not mutually exclusive, but complementary.

Thermometer mit Temperaturskala

Two independent cooling chambers

Parallel conditioning of cooling packs to different target temperatures (e.g. +5 °C and −20 °C) – two temperature ranges, one system.

Extreme Kälte

Precise temperature control

Adjustable target temperature range from −35 °C to +15 °C. Uniform pack temperature at removal ensures reproducible conditioning and minimizes the risk of temperature fluctuations during transport.

Icon geringeres Schadensrisiko

Validated cooling performance & process reliability

Includes documented process qualification for quality management – carried out as a real-world test prior to commissioning. Continuous monitoring, programmable control with time stamps, and complete documentation ensure audit-ready validation.

Baum

Energy-efficient & sustainable

Precise conditioning to the target temperature eliminates energy-intensive overcooling. Reusable cooling packs replace dry ice – reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 90% in comparison.
